What causes weak/breaking/brittle fingernails, and what product is best for fixing it? ?

My nails have always been pretty long, up until recently.

Now they crack and chip all the time, and they've chipped so far done it looks like I've been biting them all my life - which I haven't.

Any theories why this might be happening?

And what product is best to make my fingernails stronger?

Thanks in advance.

you might have a viral infection under your finger nails, check to see if theyre yellow underneath. cut them short for awhile, drink plenty of milk because you might have a calcium deficiency or something.. look it up on google good luck What causes weak/breaking/brittle fingernails, and what product is best for fixing it? ?
Nails aren't ';alive';, but they require minerals and nutrients to stay strong just like hair or teeth or many other things. Eat healthy, and keep a balanced diet. You might be low on a certain vitamin or mineral, which is weakening your nails. The other thing i've noticed about nails is that once they start chipping, you've got to get rid of any tear or chip in the nail, or the crack will just get bigger. (grrr...)

There are nail strengthening products that you can get at any drug store or beauty supply store. They often come in the form of a clear nail polish. Some nail polishes themselves strengthen nails.
you need more calcium in your diet. you may or may not be seeing some white spotting on them if this is the case. take calcium pills, or drink o.j./ milk.

there are certain nail polishes that strengthen nails, and some of them come in clear coats if you don't want color.
eating healthy
Could be a vitamin deficiency or even a hormone switch.

Try taking some Vitamin E and a B complex vitamin.

Use Sally Hansen's Diamond strength polish
